Feature and Follow #6

FF 2012 Feature & Follow #120Feature and Follow #6!

The hosts of this meme are Parajunkee and Allison Can Read. This week's features are Fiction Predictions and Love, Literature, Art, and Reason

Q: What is a deal breaker for you in a book? For example, do you abhor love triangles? Or can’t deal with bad editing?

A: So, a deal breaker for me is when a book goes on and on about something. Like how good someone looks or like how the problem is really really bad and the main character has no idea what to do. I want the main character to at least have a judgement and thoughts.

If you follow me, comment, and I'll be sure to follow back!

Happy Reading!

  1. Ohh, nice pick! That little peeve never occurred to me, but it DOES make a book a little less enjoyable.

  3. That is a really great pick! When I find books like that I often find myself yelling at the book saying "you already told me that, or I get the point!"

  5. "Like how good someone looks" - oh God, I agree! Even more if the narrator keeps mentioning the eye color, etc. :))

  7. Oh I hate that! Especially if a character is spending too many pages checking out a guy. I get that he's hot but come on! Do we have to go on and on and on some more?

    Great point!

  8. Excessive rambling is tiresome, especially when nothing develops from it.

  10. Totally agree with you! I really don't need to read how good looking someone is over and over and over again! I get it!

  12. Oooh good answer! I'm the same way, drawn out ramblings get old really fast. I tend to skip those parts but if there are too many I lose interest quick! Thanks for sharing, new follower via GFC :) Here's my FFF

  13. Great answer. If I can tell the author is simply the kind who describes things in detail, physical descriptions don't bother me. But when the author only touches over other descriptions and THEN spends pages talking about how hot someone is, I completely agree with you. And indecisive characters irk me, too. I want my characters to be smart and strong.

Glad to see another fan of dystopian novels, too! You are already ahead of me in the YA dystopian genre, though, according to your favorites! I'm still working on Delirium and Divergent and haven't purchased Legend, yet. I LOVED Matched, though. It reminded me of The Giver by Lois Lowry which is one of my favorites. =)

  15. I agree. I think the example that strikes me the most is the paragraph Diana Gabaldon uses several times in her Outlander series regarding what a highlander looks like in a kilt. Great the first time, eye-rolling the fourth. New follower via GFC.

  21. I agree with you there! I hate characters who rant on and on about how horrible there life is or something like that. Thanks for stopping by my blog! Following you back! :D

  22. I have to agree with you on this one. I just read a book where the girl was so stupid through the entire book, but the issue was so easy to figure out, I felt like my intelligence was being insulted as a reader. It was a big disappointment. Good pick.

  26. I can't stand reading books that are slow. If it keeps dragging on and on, I feel the urge to just stop reading it altogether.

  27. I hate when the author goes on and on and on on the same thing too! But I find it difficult to deal with too many point of views, too many characters in just a few pages and plot roles. Also I don’t find bad edited books very attractive, and this can turn out to be a deal breaker in the end. Love triangles I can deal, but I’m getting tired of reading the same things in romance books...
