Cindy's Review: 

Adorkable was a breezy, light read following Sally Spitz and her quest to stay away from her matchmaking best friend, Hooker (what a name!). Using her childhood playmate as a shield, Becks become her fake boyfriend and the romance begins. 

The plotline of this story is similar to many I've read before. The girl falling in love with her best friend. Often times, they fake date, but then they realize they love each other. The difference in Adorkable, though, is that Sally already knew she was in love with Becks before the fake dating. And that makes things even better. I would never get tired of this storyline (unless I just read these bubbly chick lits over and over again).

There was a lot of allusions in this book with Harry Potter and Star Wars and other things I'm not really sure of. Is "Sal.... my gal" something I should know? It was fun to read. Their relationship as totally adorkable. 

Those PDA lessons in his room. Love. And of course, the families totally support them. :) 

However, there is a pattern that I am getting tired of in literature. The popular guy is in love with a geeky, studious girl, who happens to be his best friend. Honestly, that just does not happen a lot in reality. Those popular boys always stay with the girls in their league/friend group. Though I feel like eye-rolling every time I read something like this, I do feel really giddy when the popular boy acknowledges the main character. Just because. The guy is always perfect. 

If you are looking for a short, fun weekend read, try Adorkable. Ride along with Sally's dorkiness and watch Becks and Sally's romance play out. :)

At a Glance/The Cover:
This book caught my eye because it kept on coming up on blogs. There were so so many reviews of it. Not those astonishing 'FAVORITE BOOK OF THE CENTURY' reviews. Maybe there were some 'favorite book of the year!!!' ones and 'now I finally like chick lit!' ones. Also, not much bad reviews came up. All I got was that 'it's funny how she isn't teased by everyone at her school for her letters and none of the boys were weirded out by her'. 

So I decided to read this book. Not because of 'omg. There's romance! And it's chick lit! I love chick lit!' It was simply out of curiosity. AND I DID NOT REGRET IT ONE BIT.

The Characters/My Opinion:
Lara Jean - She's a very funny, quirky girl. She's random, but she can make conversations. She can make new friends. If I were her, I would be stuttering and won't be able to think of anything to say. Conversation wise, I want to be like her. She can talk about random topics really easily. Either way, I enjoy her thoughts and narration. Interesting and enjoyable. Not dramatic at all. I like that. Too dramatic is too icky. I like her chillish, cutish, quirkyish, stealing some of Peter's words. Haha., funnyish way of talking. 

Peter Kavinsky - He just sounds perfect. After finishing the book, I just can't get over him. Like. How come I never met someone like him? Really fun to talk to. He's outgoing and chatty. Not chatty like super yammering. But he's funny. He makes you happy. He seems so perfect even though everything he does is pretty average. Okay. Maybe I'm getting some of this from Lara Jean's point of view. But he sounds so so perfect. <3. And I'm not even talking about that physical aspect of him. 

The one and only other time I couldn't get over a boy after I finished reading a book was Etienne St. Clair from Anna and the French Kiss. Despite the height, everything about him is lovable. I really like boys who can talk. Who has a happy atmosphere kind of personality. Outgoing. *sigh. They sound fake. Or maybe I just have to be more talkative, so they'll talk to me. :D 

Josh - Josh is the other third of the love triangle. Lara Jean likes him. The first 15 chapters were basically about him. He's not the big-star athlete type. He's the quiet, the boy next door, whom you fall in love with type. And honestly, I have no problem with that. Those boys tend to be cute. Josh is like that. Pretty average looks. Friendly personality. Why not? P.S. Josh was also taken by her sister, Margot. 

Plus, I swear up and down that Lara Jean is going to end up with him. Or is she? Because there was no, absolutely no mention of Peter at all. Till like 15 chapters after the book started. So typically, I thought Josh was 'the one'. Until I Peter. Then, he took the romance to a whole new level. Throughout the book, I was literally begging Peter to be the one Lara falls for. 

The letters - Okay. Not a character. But a very interesting aspect of the book. I love her letters. Gee. I wish I wrote letters like that. They let out her whole heart. And they're really random. Like how do you find such random things to talk about? In a good way. Either way, they're kind of what started everything. 

Overall Thoughts:
Absolutely love this book! I couldn't get over the whole Lara Jean <3 Peter Kavinsky. So cute. So cute. :) And I died at the end. IT WAS SUCH A CLIFFHANGER. Thank god for that sequel, cuz I need more Peter and Large. :D

The Rating: (1-10): 9.5~
It's one of my enjoyable chick lits. :)

Discussion: Chick Lit

 

I've always said my favorite genres were dystopian and fantasy, and medieval, and historical fiction, and etc.

But I really didn't realize how much I love chick lit. 

They make great stand alones.

They make great summer reads.

I also didn't realize how much names I have for them.

I call them my fresh air,

my romance stories,

my summer reads of course,

my contemporary books,

my YAs,

my road trips,

my read-once-and-forgets

etc.

In other words, I go to chick lits when I'm feeling bored, down, lonely, tired, or when I'm in a book funk.

You all had those periods when you just can't seem to find a book that would interest you, right? 

When that happens, I go to my chick lits.

They're romantic. And I love those books when I'm reading them. Those are also the kind of books I tend to read and forget about.

Most of the time.

There are some I can't seem to forget.

Either way, my point is if you're getting tired of too much dystopian....well, if you just been reading dystopian after dystopian after dystopian, you can read them chick lits.

Another thing I like about them is that they can go in any direction.

The plots can be all different.

It can be a road trip.

It can be school drama.

It can be about friends.

About parties.

About first love.

 
 

About meeting someone.

SO SO MUCH.

And there's romance.

To me, there is no good book without romance.

I'm talking about the cute ones.

Cuz I ain't that horny yet. LOL. JK.

Except for the middle grade adventures.

I enjoy those too.

But even those have romances nowadays.
 

Okay. This post was entirely a rant.

But hope I don't sound too lost.

And I hope I actually make sense.

Because once I start typing paragraphs, I make absolutely no sense....according to everyone I'm texting.
 

Either way, some GOOOD GOOOD chick lits to start on.

Okay. This may sound bad. BUT I THINK THEY'RE CHICK LIT. CUZ I ASSUME THEY'RE CHICK LIT. CUZ THEY FIT UNDER MY SUMMER READS. AND MY YA ROMANCES. AND MY FRESH AIRS. SO JUST ASSUME THEY'RE CHICK LIT. Cuz they might not be. Whoops. Tell me if they're aren't or I'm probably gonna be really embarrassed.

Anna and the French Kiss

Thoughts: I'm totally in love with Etienne. Every time I read this book, I can fall in love with him all over again. Despite the 'not that tall' aspect, he is so so so perfect. I just can't. 

And Anna is hilarious. I love Anna. Just do.

Yeah. I definitely read this book when I'm bored. I know I title sounds sooo cheesy. But there's a lot of chemistry. And totally clean. No dirtiness. Not that I mind. 

My Life Next Door

Thoughts: Another book with a cute boy. Yes, it's the 'I fell in love with my neighbor' kind. I also love the 'I fell in love with my best guy friend' types. CUZ that is so so cute. I envy them.

Anyways, this also is an awesome contemporary on my 'summer read' list. Hope ya'll enjoy this one.

 

Amy & Roger's Epic Detour

Thoughts: This one is one of the road trip kind. I love road trips. Cuz chemistry forms like crazy on the road. :D Btw, I ship every single couple in this list. SO CUTE. Why can't my school have such perfect couples? Maybe I just don't know their story. 

I doubt my mom would let me go on a road trip. Plus I have school. And summer school. To get ahead with my classes. So I can take AP and all next year. Ugh. Yeah, I'm living the nerd status. Gotta loosen up. LOL. That's why I read. :) 

Fangirl

Thoughts: YES. YES. YES. She's a newly famous author and all. But I absolutely love Fangirl. This is actually more NA than YA, but I can take anything as long as it's not erotic. Please. No erotica. Sure, it's super hot. But I don't want to get hooked. I can't even drive. And just don't want to think about those things. 

Okay. Moving on. Levi. That guy right there. :) I want to meet someone like him when I go to college. It's #Stanford. Cuz that's where all the hot nerds go. Right? Haha.

Okay. There's a whole LOT more books I can recommend that are my version of "chick lit", but I have problems thinking up of things just like that.

That's why I can never talk when I'm put on the spotlight.
