Book Review: Unenchanted by Chanda Hahn

UnEnchanted (An Unfortunate Fairy Tale, #1)Unenchanted by Chanda Hahn (An Unfortunate Fairy Tale#1).
Book Summary: Mina Grime is unlucky, unpopular and uncoordinated, that is until she saves her crush's life on a field trip, changing her High School status from loser to hero overnight. But with her newfound fame brings misfortune as an old family curse come to light. For Mina is descended from the Brothers Grimm and has inherited all of their unfinished fairy tale business. Which includes trying to outwit a powerful Story from making her its next fairytale victim.

To break the fairy tale curse on her family and stop these deadly events, Mina must finish the tales until the very Grimm end.

Cindy's Summary/Comments: So like, this was a free kindle book and the title and cover caught my attention. It is really good! I recommend it and everything. It gives fairy tales a nice spark and twist. It doesn't have all fairy tales meet each other like the TV show, Once Upon a Time, but it replays the fairy tale like a quest you have to get past of. Or that is what it's like for Mina Grimm. She's related to the Grimm brothers, Wilhelm and Jacob. Mina's real name is Wilhelmina. I find that name pretty.

Mina, as you already know, is a quiet kid who doesn't try to catch attention. So when she saves Brody Carmichael's life, she gets fame and something else: a family curse. And it's even more unexpected when Brody starts to fall for her. In book 1, three fairy tales plays out. Hansel and Gretel, The Bull and the Stag, and Little Red Riding Hood. Like how the cover claims it. I really like the cover though. ;) And the ending man. It's like a dream. *hint hint

Overall, the way Chanda writes is very charming and the characters are funny.  I really enjoyed reading this book.

Rate:(1-5): 4.5!!!

Since I have a kindle highlighting thing, there are some quote reactions. ;)
"There was no prince charming to rescue her from her snoring"
LOL. An example of the author's creativity. Mina has no idea. Maybe there is.

"If Mina's riding ability was any indication of her driving ability, then the world would have been in for a lot of dented mailboxes."
Another example of the author's humor. And it also tells you one thing. Mina is super clumsy!

" 'You should have really been on time'
   'I'm sorry'....'We had a power outage' "
If only I can lie as well as Mina.

"It was a donkey, in the middle of town. And was it wearing a hat?"
She must be hallucinating. LOL. Being chased by a dog, cat, and chicken is already too much. Much less a donkey. LOL.

"Not every tale has a happy ending. In fact, many of them are grim"
That's really true though. I wonder if they got the word grim from the Grimm brothers. No offense to them.

"She was a walking, talking embarrassment"
At least she isn't shy at talking. LOL. So am I. So is everyone at some point.

" 'Imagine me now, except twice as handsome.' "
Oh gee. So self-centered and conceited. LOL.

So that's all I got. And I recommend this series. I hope the second and third book is also free. Omg.

  2. The Bull and The Stag is referring to a German story that the Brothers collected and is tale 163. The real name is The Glass Coffin.
