Feature and Follow # 7

FF 2012 Feature & Follow #122 Feature and Follow #7!

The hosts of this meme are Parajunkee and Allison Can Read. This week's features are Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer and Paranormal Romance

Q: Do you mind books with similar ideas to other books? Similar concepts, backgrounds, retellings or pulled-to-publish fanfic?

A: Yes. Big time. I mean, first of all, not only are you feeling like you're rereading a book, you also feel bad for the original author who thought up that terrific idea. It may be a coincidence, but if the author had been more creative, they could have made their book even more special.

If you follow me, comment, and I'll be sure to follow back!

Happy Friday~

  1. Agreed. Creativity can be nothing but good for a story, so why don't more people practice it? Old follower via GFC. My FFs are at Musings on Fantasia and LKHill. Happy Friday! :D

  2. I agree as well, SOME authors, especially YA ones, don't seem to be doing their research these days. I feel as though they're almost riding the dystopian coattails of my beloved Hunger Games, without a thought to possible copycat content.

Thank you for stopping by and following!

  3. Hopping through. I don't like books that feel like blatant rip-offs, but I do think a lot of authors can pull themes from other stories while still sounding original.

  4. I like when books surprise me by having an inventive take on an idea that I'm just about to give up on because I've encountered it in so many books.

  5. To me no idea is truly original. Someone's copied from someone in any way. Yet the author usually twists the idea into their own. At least for me. Like Kelley Armstrong and Amanda Carlson. Both have books about the only female werewolf, yet the story and the worlds are different. I enjoy that!

  6. I don't mind similar ideas, as long as there's enough originality in the execution of it. Definitely not a fan of fanfic.

Thanks for stopping in this weekend!

  9. Good point! The original authors probably don't like so many copycats.

  10. That's exactly my problem! I feel really bad for the original author, like I should tell them or something... But I'm sure they already know *sigh* nothing to do about it anyway!

I'm a new follower :D Here is my FFF

  11. I think it would annoy me if a book was an exact remake of another book but I have found that almost all books share inspiration from somewhere else and so it will remind me of aspects of another book. I don't think I've ever read something that was exactly like another book just a change in character or setting.
