Book Review: Murder on Olympus by Robert B. Warren

Murder on Olympus (Plato Jones #1)Murder on Olympus (A Plato Jones Novel )
by Robert B. Warren
Release Date: March 1st, 2011
Publisher: Dragonfairy Press
Genre: Urban Fantasy
Format: ARC paperback, 376 pages
Source: Publisher
ISBN: 978-0-9850-2306-5
Get a Copy: B&N | Amazon | Kobo

Goodreads Summary: At first glance, the Gods of Olympus are as different from one another as salt is from sugar. Despite their bickering, they share a universal bond, a thread of commonality that unites them.

They’re all jerks.

After a stint with the Olympic Bureau of Investigation, Plato Jones is through with the Gods and their political games. Against his protests, he's drawn into a murder investigation, where the murderer's targets are the Gods themselves.

Plato has cracked some tough cases: exposing cheating spouses, capturing treasonous heretics, hunting three-headed dogs. But this time he’s in over his head. How can he solve a crime that’s impossible to commit? And what chance does Plato—a mere mortal—have against something powerful enough to kill a God?

Cindy's Review:
Thank you Dragonfairy Press for sending me the ARC~ ;D

"Mortals are so adorable."
Oh. Are they? You're so funny.....

The Cover:
I think the Olympus building is pretty cool. ;D But it looks scary, like it's going to collapse any second. The Police Lines are smart. ;) Since this is like a mystery.

"I thought she was going to be a sex-crazed lunatic...."
LOL. Me too.

The Characters:
Plato Jones - Plato is a detective who used to work for Zeus. The one thing that confuses me in this book is that if the Greek gods and goddesses are known by netizens and common people. In Percy Jackson, Greek mythology is like a big myth to the world but it seems like in this book, normal people know about them. Plato is kind of cocky. He's funny and stuff. Although at times, he seems like a perv.

"Is she hot?
It's a man, sir."
LOL. Jonesy~

Anyways, there were a series of murders. Someone was murdering gods and goddesses.  And Zeus believes Plato Jones would be a big help.

"She did have a nice ass though."
Omg. This part. Kind of creepy. But it's such a guy thought.

Hercules - You guys heard of  Hercules, right? And the myths say he's scary and giant. But in this case, Hercules is a friendly giant. A big teddy bear. He calls Plato Jonesy. LOL.

"Vice President Poseidon, the mighty God of the Sea, was having a temper tantrum."
Yep. I heard of the temper tantrum part, but not the Vice President part. ;D

Hermes - Hermes appeared in this book quite a lot. Hermes seems so mean-ish. And old-ish. I get the vision of Hermes being a young adult in the other retellings.

"A box of my oatmeal cookies. For the road."
I thought you weren't supposed to take any food from the Underworld? But I guess it's different here. ;)

Apollo -  Okay. Apollo didn't appear. But Apollo's so hot~ LOL. Can't believe I'm fangirling. I think only Hera, Zeus,Poseidon,  Hades, Persephone, Aphrodite, and Ares appeared.

"Other than the fact that you're brother is a deranged lunatic? "
Haha. Hades is always the bad guy in books. Or he's just evil.

Ares - Ares had the same aggressive attitude he had in other books.  But overall, this book gives such a new feeling.

"I wonder if she was looking at my abs or...."
Way to compliment yourself, Jonesy. LOL.

I really like the fun feeling this book gives. I love re-tellings of Greek mythology. Especially when the guy character is funny. I can't say he's hot though, since he's way over my age limit. :D There is also a bit romance n this. But I like the adventure better.

"When in doubt, go simple."
Well, thanks for that fashion tip. ;D

The Extras:
Yay. If you love Greek mythology and/or Percy Jackson, be sure to check out this book. It's awesome~ ;D And I'll bet you have reading it.

The Rating: (1-10): 9~

Happy Reading~

Book Review: The Quantum Games by Kailin Gow

The Quantum Games (The Alchemists Academy, #3)The Quantum Games (The Alchemist Academy #3)
by Kailin Gow
Format: ebook
Source: Author
Genre: Fantasy
Get a Copy:  B&N | Amazon

Goodreads Summary: Wirt, Spencer, and Roland are thrown into the dangerous Quantum Games, and only 1 can move onto the Elite class.

Cindy's Review:

There wasn't much information provided by Goodreads on this book. Sorry ~  Thanks to Kailin Gow for sending me the third book in The Alchemist Academy! I did a blog tour for the first two books and Kailin Gow offered to send me the third one. ;D

The Cover:
Personally, I don't think the cover really matches the story. Since I kind of expect Wirt, the main character, to be younger. Kind of like Harry Potter's age in The Sorcerer's Stone.

The Characters:
Wirt- Wirt is the main character in the book. He's like Alina, but Spencer is dating her. He's an advisor to the future king, but the king seems to be better at it than him. Worst, he knows he has to win the Quantum Games. But he's going against Spencer, whose his friend and Roland, whose his enemy. What a horrible year for Wirt.

Roland - Roland is evil. If he's not evil, he's possessed. He plans to take over the school and in order to do that, a step is to be in the Elite class. To be in the Elite class, though he has to win the Quantum Games. The Quantum Game is a game that you have to roll a black spinning ball at people to disintegrate your opponents. And Roland. Roland is good at that.

The Extras:
I really like the way Kailin Gow plots this story. It's makes it a really fast read. The Alchemist Academy kind of gives a Harry Potter's School of Wizardy and Witchcraft vibe, but exactly like it either. Although no one can beat J.K. Rowling, I must Kailin Gow is pretty good~. ;D

The Rating: (1-10): 7.6

Happy Reading~

Before 2009, Mia wouldn't even pick up a book and was more interested in sports. However she finally found some novels that captured her interest and developed a love of both reading and writing. Mia began with poems and after getting two published in separate anthologies she moved on to short stories. Author Interview: Jennifer Snyder, The Author of Exhale

Jennifer Snyder
Hey guys, I recently reviewed some books by Jennifer Snyder. And her books are just amazing~  so I decided to do an author interview~

She wrote some awesome books like Exhale, The Unloved, and Shattered Soul.

Hope you'll enjoy~

1. Out of all the books you've written, which one did you enjoy the most?

Shattered Soul, which was my debut novel. That novel came to me lightning fast! Even though it touches on some very sensitive subjects and my heartstrings were tugged in a million different ways while writing it - Seth's voice in my head was amazing!

2. How long did it take you to write Exhale?

About 6-8 weeks.

3. What is the first book you remember reading as a child?

My first favorite book as a kid was The Magic Finger by Roald Dahl. I must have read that book a thousand times!

4. If you were going to come up with a theme song for your book, what song would it be?

Funny thing is, I generally only have a handful of songs that spur inspiration and to be honest that's really only when I write my contemporary novels. When it comes to my paranormal ones (with the exception of The Marked Duology) I don't listen to music when writing. The only one I can think of off the top of my head is a song for The Unloved - it would definitely be Scars by Papa Roach. When I first heard that song I felt like it had been written for them and them alone.

5. Do you like to plan things out before you write?

You know, it would be ice if I did. If I was one of those authors who write these gloriously detailed outlines and basically just has to fill in small blanks left that would be wonderful. But that's not me. My writing process is a little more unorganized than that. I generally start out with either a little clip of dialogue, which could be as small as a single sentence or as long as a paragraph, or else a scene that either pops in my head or comes to me through a dream. And then I go from there.

6. What is your favorite thing to do during your free time?

Read of course! When I'm not reading or writing I can be found outside playing with my two kids or attempting to have the best flower garden in my little neighborhood. If only I could get the pretty little things to grow...

7.How did you get your agent?

I actually don't have an agent. I'm a Self-Published/Indie Author.

8. What is a food you can eat forever without getting tired of it?

Salads. I could eat a salad every day of my life and never get sick of them.

9. Do you prefer print or e-books? Bookshelf or e-Reader?

It all depends. I still enjoy paperbacks sometimes, but generally only buy them if I'm in love with the author's previous work or I've read a killer e-book and want it on my bookshelf. Most of the time though, it's e-books for me.

10. Do you have an author you look up to? If so, who?

Of course! There are loads of authors that I admire for various reasons. Jennifer Echols has a flawless way of writing, as does Abbi Glines. Anne Rice and Annette Curtis Klause wrote two of my all-time favorite novels. Jessica Sorensen novels always pull me in as well.

Those are just to name a few. There are many more authors that I'm in love with their writing style and the way they have conducted themselves in both the Indie and Traditionally published worlds.

Thanks so much for allowing me to be on your blog!

Thank you so much for taking your time to answer these questions! ;D Hope you guys had fun. And be sure to read Exhale. I just absolutely love that book~ And of course all the other books written by Jennifer too.

You can hit her up at her website (given above). I'm sure she'll let you request a book. ;)

Book Review: Love Request by Tara Chevrestt

Love RequestLove Request
by Tara Chevrestt
Release Date: January 25th, 2013
Publisher: Pagan Writers Press
Format: ebook, 130 pages
Source: Author
Genre: Romance
ISBN: 978-1-9383-9740-0
Get a Copy: B&N | Amazon

Goodreads Summary: When Ciara Littleton takes the plunge and finally joins Facebook to socialize without the limits that her hearing impairment gives her, on a whim, she looks up a childhood friend. In sending him that first message, she ignites the memories of a crush from twenty years ago. But can a simple friend request fix all that stands between them and lead to something more?

Hunter has a lot on his plate. A recent divorce, a pregnant sister, and now, he realizes he's in love with a woman who lives states away. Can he overcome the boundaries of Internet romance to make this desire turn into something real, or will adversity and distance be their undoing--adversity being in the form of his very own sister--the woman who bullied Ciara so mercilessly long ago?

This book was formerly titled A Facebook Affair and has been revised with a new ending.

Cindy's Review:

First, I would like to thank Tara Chevrestt for allowing me to read her book. ;D

The Cover:
That guy is pretty hot. ;D LOL. And I think the laptop and mouse thing is cute. And it gives the hint that it's on Facebook because of the Like button. I think the cover fits the story pretty well. Or at least the beginning of the story.

The Characters:
Ciara Littleton - Ciara lives by herself after her mother had died. She have a hearing aid because of her hearing issues. Because of those issue, Ciara has been bullied through and through. That is, except for one guy. That one guy, who cute and even good looking, all the way back in seventh grade. Hunter. That's his name. But on the bad side, Hunter was the brother of the girl who kept on bullying Ciara. But that was all the way back then. Now, Ciara's all grown up. But she's still single. Her friend suggested her to make a Facebook account to meet guys. And thatt's where she found Hunter again.

Hunter - Hunter just found out that his wife have cheated on him. Again. He's a successful real estate agent, but his wife just doesn't think it's enough. So when a girl from his elementary finds him on Facebook and contacts him, maybe it's means there's going to be a new beginning. Hunter sure wants to meet Ciara again. But his pregnant sister says the opposite.

Lindsey -  I think this is her name. Hunter's sister. Her husband is in the army.  She makes her brother do everything for her. Honestly, I kind of hated her, cuz she was such a hypocrite, bully, whatever. But in the end, she was actually supportive and nice.

The Extras:
Later in the end, in the author bio, I found out that the author was kind of similar to Ciara. Maybe not the bullying part, but the author also have hearing aids. And she's living a happy life with her husband! ;D So even if you're living at a disadvantage, you'll still make it through. Just be happy and positve. ;D

For those who love some tragedy and romance. This is for you~ And the ending will make you smile your head off. :D

The Rating: (1-10): 8.6~

Happy Reading~

Blog Tour: The Voice by Jennifer Anne Davis

Welcome to my stop on The Voice Blog Tour
hosted by Supagurl Tours.
You can find the schedule for other stops HERE.

Blurb:

During her abduction and assault, Audrey begins to hear a voice. She hopes she’s not going crazy, because after what she’s experienced, that’s the most logical explanation. However, as she begins to listen to the voice, Audrey realizes that someone may be telepathically trying to help her.

Unfortunately, rescue isn't all she needs. In order to leave behind the constant reminders, she flees to her Aunt Kate’s house in San Diego, and assumes a new identity. It works—until the eighteen-year-old twin boys who live next door threaten to break through the protective walls she’s worked so hard to build.
Between Caleb going out of his way to befriend her and Justin avoiding her at all costs, Audrey doesn't know if normalcy will ever find her again. But one thing is certain: When a familiar danger resurfaces, it’s the same voice that she turns to—a voice that is not only real, but a lot closer than she realizes.
Gripping and tastefully told, The Voice is a story of healing, trust, and courage.

Cindy's Review:

I love the romance in this. <3. ;)

The Voice started off with Audrey alone, locked in a cabin. She was kidnapped and raped by her own uncle. But suddenly, there was a voice who helped her. Who was in her head. Who responded to her questions. Who even helped her escape.

After Audrey escaped, she just wasn't herself. She was quiet. Tiny. She feels small in this world. And school is way overwhelming. So she decided to go visit her Aunt Kate in San Diego. Her aunt is so cool. Her aunt is like only 10 or 11 years older than her. Audrey goes to school in San Diego under a different name. She gets to live as if nothing happened.

When she got to San Diego, there were two twin boys next door. One was popular, cute, friendly, ya know the typical. The other was (I guess just as cute, since their identical twins, LOL) just as popular, but he tend to ignore Audrey. Whenever she goes by, he'll put his hood down.

Omg And there's this scene where Audrey saw him in his bedroom and I"m like "ooh hot.".

When the teaser said the voice would be near, I immediately had an idea. And, well, you can say I was correct. ;)

This book is an amazing read filled with suspense. And the romance is PERF!!! And the ending! OMG. You might fall off your chair in anticipation so be careful when you read it! LOL.

Book Review: The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden by Jessica Sorensen

The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden (The Coincidence, #1)The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden (The Coincidence #1)
by Jessica Sorensen
Release Date: December 13th, 2012
Genre: New Adult
Format: ebook, 336 pages
Source: ePubBud
Get a Copy: B&N | Amazon | Kobo

Goodreads Summary: There are those who don’t get luck handed to them on a shiny platter, who end up in the wrong place at the wrong time, who don’t get saved.

Luck was not on Callie’s side the day of her twelfth birthday when everything was stolen from her. After it’s all over, she locks up her feelings and vows never to tell anyone what happened. Six years later her painful past consumes her life and most days it’s a struggle just to breathe.

For as long as Kayden can remember, suffering in silence was the only way to survive life. As long as he did what he was told, everything was okay. One night, after making a terrible mistake, it seems like his life might be over. Luck was on his side, though, when Callie coincidentally is in the right place at the right time and saves him.

Now he can’t stop thinking about the girl he saw at school, but never really knew. When he ends up at the same college as Callie, he does everything he can to try to get to know her. But Callie is reserved and closed off. The more he tries to be part of her life, the more he realizes Callie might need to be saved.

Cindy's Review:

I heard this book was really good. Other bloggers raved about it. And I really love some romance novel. Omg. ;) I had no doubt about it, since the author is Jessica Sorensen and she's such a great writer. The Secret of Ella and Micha was fabulous.

"There's nothing going on between us." "Yet."
Omg. That YET. Mhmmmm.

The Cover:
There's actually an awesome scene in  the book that fits the cover. Really. There isn't much books where a scene in the book actually describes the scene of the cover. So I must say, fantastic cover~

But the girl from the cover doesn't look like she would be bullied. She's looks pretty like those popular girls from school. But oh weeeell~

"Just think with your head....and not with your dick."
Luke. LOL. See, he kind of does remind me of Kenji from Shatter Me.

The Characters:
Callie - Ever since 'that incident' happened to her, Callie is closed off. Everyone calls her a freak. Even her own brother. Despite that everyone else believes that she has no real feeling and all, she's actually likes someone. Ever since middle school. Now it's college. And everything is about to change for Callie. A new start. No more being called freak. And no more of 'that incident' around to remind her about her horrible life. What Callie really didn;t expect, though, is that her crush would be going to the same college she's going to.

"I observe his neck muscles as they move to force the alcohol down."
How observant. xD Are you sure you're not falling for him?

Kayden - Such a unique name. LOL. I actually like that name. Kayden is popular in high school .He's hot, sexy, just whatever the most popular boy in the school looks like. But he has a life that no one knows about. No one knows about his father who beats him. Except Callie. Who saved him. That one high school party. And he never really forgot her. But being in the same school as her bring back more memories. And the bad boy Kayden actually falls for the school freak, Callie. (No offense, Callie)

Their romance is so perf. Omg. And Kayden is hot, despite all the scratches he has. So their relationship blooms as they see each other more and more everyday.

"Can I put my hand on your hip?"
Err.. what a refined gentleman. Won't that make thinks awkward?

Luke - Luke was Kayden's best friend in high school. He still is Kayden's best friend in college. In fact, he goes to the same college as Kayden (wonder how that happened.) LOL. I think Luke is actually a pretty fun guy to be around. He kind of reminds me of Kenji from Unravel Me (Shatter Me #2) but Kenji was funnier. They both give off that happy, carefree vibe. And one thing I like a lot about Luke is that he is so against Kayden dating his girlfriend, Daisy. She's a senior in high school and bullied Callie constantly.

"Is she having sex or something?"
Yeah, Seth kind of talks like Luke. And Kenji. Seriously. Every mention of sex and cuss words in a funny way reminds of Kenji. LOL.

Seth - Seth is Callie's best friend. He's cool. He's not the-boy-next-door kind of best friend, so he's definitely out of Callie's boyfriend material. Which is a good thing since I want her to end up with Kayden. Which is will because there's no love-triangle in this book! ;D Seth is gay, but he doesn't really act like it in the book. Either way, I also think he's fun to be around with. I think Seth and Luke really match each other (not in a relationship, but like in a friend way).

"What the fuck is wrong with my heart?"
It's called love, man.

The Extras:
Ohmergerd. The ending. Like I really wasn't expecting. Because, it was like the last page (and I'm reading using an ereader, so I didn't know what page I was on) and I thought it was the end of a chapter. So I flipped the page and it went to author bio. I was like WHAT! And I had to reread the ending, because I got confused. LOL.

"...I'm smelling her hair like a fucking werido."
LOL. Does it smell good?

The Good:
I really like how Callie and Kayden's relationship grow stronger. It's so cute. You'll get to read their sweet scenes and all. I especially liked the rain scene because that was romantic, even though it's a bit touchy.

This book also had a bit of suspense to it, because we don't learn about what happened to Callie to make her so exclusive until the near end of the book. Everything starts making sense there.

"Let him get close to you if he wants to, okay?"
You gotta love Seth. :)

The Bad:
Although I love romance, I still try to stick to young adult, but yeah those romantic scenes were hot. I don't remember if anything happened between Callie and Kayden. Haha. Cuz my horrible memories. I read this like a month ago (like always)

"They have attachment issues."
LOL.

The Rating: (1-10): 9
Hey, it was romantic and sweet~

Happy Reading~

Mila 2.0 (MILA 2.0, #1)Blurb:

Mila 2.0 is the first book in an electrifying sci-fi thriller series about a teenage girl who discovers that she is an experiment in artificial intelligence.

Mila was never meant to learn the truth about her identity. She was a girl living with her mother in a small Minnesota town. She was supposed to forget her past—that she was built in a secret computer science lab and programmed to do things real people would never do.

Now she has no choice but to run—from the dangerous operatives who want her terminated because she knows too much and from a mysterious group that wants to capture her alive and unlock her advanced technology. However, what Mila’s becoming is beyond anyone’s imagination, including her own, and it just might save her life.

Mila 2.0 is Debra Driza’s bold debut and the first book in a Bourne Identity-style trilogy that combines heart-pounding action with a riveting exploration of what it really means to be human. Fans of I Am Number Four will love Mila for who she is and what she longs to be—and a cliffhanger ending will leave them breathlessly awaiting the sequel.

Cindy's Review:

A lot of people raved about this book, so when I saw the opportunity to read it, I couldn't give it up. Mila 2.0 was quite an interesting science fiction read. I love reading about science fiction books, especially things that take place in the future. Although I'm pretty sure Mila 2.0's setting is modern, all the human android idea is probably futuristic.

Mila 2.0 is about is girl named Mila. She lives in a small countryside city that she just moved to not long ago because of her father's death. Or so she thought. Everything seemed perfect. She found a guy she likes. She have some friends. Some school drama. Typical of a teenage girl. But when she fell off a truck and should have gotten really hurt, she didn't. She didn't bleed. She didn't even scrape herself. Non-typical of a teenage girl.

Her so-called mom, Nicole, finally gave her the big news. Yeah. That Mila is an android. In fact, she's version number 2. Human androids aren't supposed to feel emotions, but Mila feels it. Apparently, her "mom" stole her out of the laboratory because she feels Mila deserves better than to just be an experiment. Before long Mila knew about her true self, she had to be on the run, away from her creator who wants her back and away from the people who wants to sell her for money.

As much as she ran, she still ended up being caught. And in the laboratory, she either listen to them and do whatever they tell her to or to rebel and try to run away again.

This book was a stunning read filled up with suspense. Can't wait to read the next book! If you like science fiction romance, this book is for you. ;)

I rate this a 7.5~
